Disney River Cruises Will Sail the Danube and the Rhine

Online Magazine | Tourism Review Online Magazine III / 2016

Disney introduces new river cruises this year on the Danube – and the next year on the Rhine. Adventures by Disney will make the first river cruise trips this summer.

According to Ken Potrock, senior vice president of Adventures by Disney, the region around the Rhine is a beautiful area which is perfect for the new river cruises. The trip on a new cruise ship will take the cruisers to four different countries: Germany, Netherlands, France and Switzerland.

In 2016, Disney offers five river cruises on the 170-passenger AmaViola. The ship will sail with 8 adventure guides. The essential idea behind the trips is to offer as many activities to as many tourists as possible.

Activities for families, adults and children are all available. Bike tours or wine sampling trips around Germany are on offer, according to Potrock.

Adventures by Disney now has 40 itineraries that are however mostly land-based experiences. The aim of the new river cruises on the Danube and the Rhine is to expand the offer of guided travel.

The Danube cruise trips also include a tour of Alderbasbach Brewery in Vilshofen, Germany, as a preparation for this year’s Oktoberfest celebrations. Also, the Slovakian Devin Castle in Bratislava is on the itinerary, as well as a tour through the Melk Benedictine Abbey with marmalade, juice and wine tasting in Melk & Krems, Austria. Other attractions on offer for the river cruise participants include the option to see a horse show, a salt mine tour, a marionette performance, and even a special culinary experience when the travelers cook their own goulash and strudel. Bike tours are also available. Two or three guided tours are to be offered in each port.
